Special Projects
Projects and events are opportunities
to make a specific impact to a community or organization in need.
Often a gift of a few hundred dollars can make all the difference
to a struggling village, group of children, or outreach ministry.
Within Morning Star's Programs, there are several ways to impact
the effectiveness and future of this non-profit organization.

A Sanctuary
When the tiny bamboo church was
acquired by Morning Star, it had a thatched roof, spindly bamboo
posts, and a dirt floor. Small wooden benches were scattered
around to seat the worshipers. The first thing, the church was
lifted and turned 90 degrees around!
Cement was poured for the floor,
chairs were purchased, a blackboard was posted the entire width
behind the podium, and a ditch created around the perimeter to
catch rain.
The last thing is constructing
half walls around the edge to keep out monsoon rains! Your gift
for the "church walls" will be gratefully received
- approximately $300. |

Garden and Pigs
Assistance for livelihood is
a challenge in an area know for its poverty, poor soil, and lack
of resources. The Abra province is landlocked, the soil is mostly
clay and rocks, and the hilly terrain makes it difficult to grown
rice and other crops.
In 2008, we are bringing in an
international organization known as the Institute of Foundational
Learning (based in Manila) which will present a week-long seminar
on Agricultural Training. This seminar will teach residents how
to create a 10-square meter area that will provide vegetables,
herbs and other plants to enrich the diet and nutrition of the
family. Training will also be provided on raising the quality
of the clay soil with amendments, and growing menus, rather than
single plants!
We are also going to receive
training for raising pigs in a different way, giving them feed
that is mixed with local by-products to result in little or no
odor. If you would like to help with this upcoming seminar, your
gift of $100 will go a long way in putting the seminar together! |

Medical-Dental
Day
Morning Star has been providing
free Medical Dental Days for over three years. From the beginning,
these one day events offer marginal families a place to obtain
doctor and dentist care, as well as free over the counter medicines.
Morning Star schedules the doctors
and dentists, as well as assistants. Nurses are brought in. Volunteers
do intake. Anesthesia for the dental work is provided. Food is
purchased and prepared to feed everyone, starting with the medical
group. Sometimes children's activities are planned.
Three years ago, the cost of
an event was about $300.00. Increased prices, especially for
the medicines, has caused expenses to jump. A full Medical Dental
Day now costs about $700.00 (2008). Would you or your group sponsor
a Medical-Dental Day? |

Teen
Programs
Teenagers in the villages have
been singularly impacted by Morning Star. With an active Sunday
School class, teens have become involved with several outreach
projects that have changed their lives.
Facing tedious lives of drudgery
and poverty, teens have become alive helping with Vacation Bible
Schools, guitar lessons, leading worship and testimonies at church,
and at crusade events.
Donations to help this outreach
touches the leaders of tomorrow, but also brings joy to young
lives, purpose to their steps, and real plans for their future. |

Guitars!
Guitars!
The wonderful portability of
guitars has made this a favorite class at Morning Star. Teens
especially have flocked to this class to learn guitar.
But with only six guitars, as
soon as one person sets the instrument down to rest his or her
fingers, it is snatched up by another student!
Each guitar costs about $125.00.
Morning Star has tried the less expensive ones, but they either
shatter or sound horrible. Yes, we'd love help with this expense!
Thank you! |

Vacation
Bible School
Vacation Bible School will be
greatly expanded this year. Instead of just two villages (one
week in one, a second week in another), we are looking at several
more communities to extend the outreach.
Teens are even now beginning
to figure out skits, putting together lists of scriptures to
be memorized,k practicing simple praise songs for the children,
and gather craft materials.
As many people know, there are
always hidden expenses, as well as all the supplies of crayons
and paper and treats and chairs and guitar sets and puppets...
Your support of Vacation Bible School will be gratefully
received! |
